With reference to the Grading
Scheme for Clerkships in the Hongkong Civil Service which
is described on pages 190 191 of the Hongkong Civil
Service List for 1910, I have the honour to inform Your
Lordship that, in the course of the preparation of the
Lists of Officers which are printed on pages 100 - 127
of that publication, it was ascertained that certain
appointments, which are set out in the schedules forming
the first and second enclosures in this Despatch, had not
been graded. As I held it to be desirable that so far as
possible all clerical appointments should be brought
under the Grading Scheme, I consulted the Heads of the
Departments concerned and arranged to have the posts in
question graded as shown in the enclosures to this Des-
-patch. The action taken involves an immediate increase of
Ponclosures 1472.
$502 per annum, but there will be a prospective maximum
saving of $1,921 per annum.
